Data collection training to monitor farmers’ activities and crop growth
Tanzania Youth Espouse for Gender and Development (TYEGD) and TARI recently conducted a data collection training in the Bunda and Butiama regions, for government officials, agricultural extension officers, and citizen scientists.
This training focused on using the mAgric app (developed by Esoko), a digital tool designed to collect and monitor farmers’ activities, crop growth, and crop health.
Every two weeks, these data collectors visit farmers in the field to collect all this information directly into the app.
The training included two main sessions: an initial theoretical classroom session and a follow-up practical session. In the practical session, they tested the app in the field, practicing how to use it accurately and measure crop parameters.
Additionally, demonstration plots were set up in the Nyamang’uta ward of Bunda District. These demo plots showcase good agricultural practices in the field, with a focus on cassava and maize cultivation.
One of the groups from Sarawe participated in preparing the land and planting cassava and maize, gaining hands-on experience with improved agricultural methods.
