Drip Irrigation Kits gains efficiency and productivity
Forty farmers in the Tanzanian districts of Guta Ward and Nyamang’uta Ward are equipped with Drip Irrigation Kits (DIK) to farm their crops. This system conserves water, reduces labor and ensures consistent moisture for crops. A great example of climate smart agriculture, using water efficiently and improving food productivity.
Weather Impact donated the kits to farmers who need them most. Local partner TYEGD has done a great job in planning, distributing and installing the DIKs across five villages. Even more neighboring farmers are enthusiastic about the kits, after observing the potential benefits.
Farmers were selected based on their engagement in vegetable farming and readiness to adopt new technologies. Through hands-on training farmers were shown how to connect the 20 liter water tanks, lay drip lines and ensure water drops reach each planting hole. Each farmer planted Chinese cabbage and nutrient-rich spinach, not only for own consumption but to also generate extra income when surplus production can be sold in local markets. With a gender balance of 78% female participation, it showed that empowering women farmers directly enhances household food security and income generation.
Furthermore, they are trained on Good Agricultural Practices, crop analysis, ridge preparation, planting techniques and irrigation management. TYEGD provided a practical demonstration about the DIK installation and the extension officers are fully involved ensuring technical support, monitoring and sustainability.
The coming months farmers will experience the benefits of the drip irrigation kits, expecting enhanced climate-smart agricultural practices, consistent vegetables for family consumption, and expected surplus produce to generate income.

Farmers receive training on installation and use of the drip irrigation kits.
