Mali – Monitoring of the Rainy Season

On this web page, Weather Impact offers weather and climate information to support monitoring of the rainy season in Mali. The service helps enhance weather forecast updates and farming advice sent via SMS to maize farmers insured through OKO in Mali. The project is funded by ISF.

Below are presented:

  • Map of the current status of the farming advice for Maize
  • 7-days weather forecast
  • Overview of current rainfall situation

Maize Farming Advisory Service Status

Service Status

This map shows the current status of the maize farming advisory across Mali, based on the agronomic calendar and both observed and forecasted weather conditions. Each color represents a different stage in the maize growing cycle, tailored to local conditions to support timely agricultural decisions.

Planted Maize Status

This map highlights areas where weather conditions have been or are currently suitable for planting maize, based on standard planting windows and both observed and forecasted weather data. However, it does not necessarily reflect actual planting activity on the ground, as individual farmers make planting decisions based on local conditions and personal circumstances.

Current Weather Indicators

The maps show the variable’s average over the period indicated by the cursor bar.

TIP: the Current Weather maps can be useful to recognize the onset of the rainy season. Selecting the “P amount” panel and moving the bottom cursor from left to right, it is possible to have an overview of the rainfall observed in the previous month and expected in the next week.
