What are the most important questions from the energy sector, in regards to weather and climate? Which answers can meteorologists give already? And what are relevant research topics for the future? “Sun and wind are increasingly shaping the conditions for our energy infrastructure. Incorporating climate change in the design of the renewable energy system is therefore of great importance. The energy sector and meteorologists need to collaborate more closely.”

Weather Impact has done a scoping study to the effect of weather and climate variability on the production of renewable energy from solar and wind, and the weather-dependent energy demand in the Netherlands. Solar Magazine interviewed Stefan Ligtenberg and Gerrit Hiemstra about this study.
