Technical training and Google Earth Engine in The Gambia

Published on 16 July 2024 by Tamara Lancel

Recently, colleagues from Weather Impact started the first training week in The Gambia, to provide DCAS training and technical learnings to different governmental departments and participants from the Department of Water Resources and Fisheries (DWR).

The goal is to teach and share effective digital climate advisory services and provide training on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, that we are developing specifically for The Gambia. This platform will visualize different datasets, such as climate change hazards, land use and meteorological data, allowing govermental organisations to access all necessary information easily at one single platform. In the end, this supports decision making and build resilience against climate change.

Additionally, we provided a more specialized technical training on how to use Python, to create weather maps for The Gambia and how to maintain the GEE platform. This group will be in charge of sustaining the services locally.

Overall a succesfull and impactful training week. More is following in November!
